Random stamping is one fun technique that allows you to create a quick background with your stamps, by repeating the stamped image in different directions. I also love how you can create a focal point by colouring in a single image or in my case frame one of them.
I haven’t done this technique in a while so I choose a cute & quirky Ewe from the Close To My Heart’s On the Farm Stamp + Thin Cuts set.

I knew I wanted to frame one of my images, so I cut out my frame first, as that was going to help me deicide where I was going to stamp my Ewe.
I then stamped the Ewe, making sure I stamped off the edge & rotated the image (See below on more hints on how to do the Random Stamping Technique) and then grabbed an off cut scrap from one of my mixed media projects (yes sometimes scraps do come in handy to be used) & thought it made a great little background for my Ewe, I just had to add some grass & a sun.
I coloured in my Ewe with my TriBlend™ Markers & added a shadow under each randomly stamped Ewe as not only did it add some detail it helped to fill in some of the gaps with a bit of colour.
The card came together nice & quick.
How to do the Random Stamping Technique
- Allow your images to “bleed off” the paper.
- Turn your stamp (and your paper) so that images are not lined up and all facing the same direction.
- Try to maintain a relatively consistent distance between the same images.
