A “muddy” backdrop, perfect for a playful pig!
My vision for this Stampin’ Up Party Piggy Stamp Set was to create a “muddy” backdrop, perfect for this playful pig! To achieve this, I reached for my trusty Crumb Cake cardstock and a selection of earthy Stampin’ Up! inks: Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie, and Early Espresso.
The magic happened when I applied a bit of each ink onto a non-porous surface and spritzed it generously with water. This allowed the colors to mingle and swirl together beautifully. Then came the fun part, swiping the Crumb Cake cardstock through this inky mixture. The result was an organic and wonderfully varied wash of browns, reminiscent of a muddy puddle.
To add another layer of interest and texture, I couldn’t resist sprinkling some gold embossing powder over the damp, inky background. Once heat-set, the gold added subtle shimmers and a tactile element that elevates the entire piece.
To finish off the background, I roughed up the edges of the cardstock and rolled them slightly to enhance the rustic feel. A simple strip of ribbon across the center adds a nice contrast to the textured background and added it to a cardbase of Early Espresso cardstock,
Of course, the adorable Party Pig, stamped in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla cardstock and colored with Stampin’ Blends, takes center stage. I even added a fun shaker element using the Small Circle Shaker Domes filled with Loose Shaker Elements for a touch of interactive whimsy.
While the shaker element adds a playful touch, the true star of this card, in my opinion, is the unique and textured “mud” background. It’s a testament to the versatility of ink blending and the unexpected beauty that can be created with a little water and a swipe!
What do you think of this muddy creation? Have you experimented with creating your own textured backgrounds? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Happy crafting!
