Sometimes you just have to let your creativity run wild—and that’s exactly what happened with this playful birthday card!
This project was all about giving myself the freedom to mix and match stamp sets just to see if it would work. Spoiler alert: it did—and I love how it turned out! The stacked critter design started with the long dachshund from the Long Time No See stamp set, and from there things got a little… chaotic (in the best way).

Creative Critter Chaos: Mixing Stamp Sets for a Playful Birthday Card
Next came the turtle, a few cheeky birds, and of course, the cake—all from the Turtle-y Awesome stamp set. Topping it off is a cake-wielding squirrel from Resourceful Rusty, looking like he’s ready to crash the party!
All of the images were coloured with Stampin’ Blends for smooth shading and vibrant colour, then fussy cut and carefully layered using glue to create this fun, stacked scene. The background is a dreamy sky-to-grass blend from the Everyday Happiness DSP—no need for inky blending when the paper does the work for you!
The sentiment? A cheeky “FREE CAKE! I mean… Happy Birthday” combo, using stamps from the Not 29 Anymore set. It’s playful, it’s a little sassy, and it’s sure to get a laugh.
This was a great reminder that sometimes the best cards come from creative play—no plan, just stamps, paper, ink, and the willingness to see where the idea takes you.
