I absolutely love the convenience of Stampin’ Up!’s Make a Memory Scrapbooking Kit, but sometimes I want to add my own creative twist and adding your personal touch makes each page uniquely yours and with a few simple mixed media techniques I was able to give this a makeover that anyone can master – no artistic experience required!

The Mixed Media Magic
I started with the packaging Technique, mixing the Secret Sea Ink with some water onto a plastic bag & kissing it over the pre-printed background.
I then used an old mask (stencil) with a blending brush & the Secret Sea Ink. The water added to the packaging technique lightens the colour of the first layer, so it was easy to use the same ink colour but get a different look to it.
I added more layers & texture with the Elements of Text Stamp Set, which also lended well to the Book Week theme of this Scrapbook layout. I stamped with the same Secret Sea Ink & it can be seen due to the different application of the ink.
I finally mixed some secret sea ink with Embossing Paste & applied that with some Palette Knives through a different stencil (mask) to add some more texture with the same colour onto the layout.
I pulled the photo cluster I created using the Make a Memory Scrapbooking Kit onto this mixed media background & added some height with thick cardboard off cuts (same look can be achieved with foam sheets) and embellished it with some extra stamped elements & embellishments.
Tips for Succes
- Start light and build up texture gradually
- Let each layer dry completely
- Don’t be afraid to experiment
Final Thoughts This project reminded me why I love combining the convenience of kits with the creativity of mixed media. The result feels completely custom while still being achievable for crafters at any level.
