A Die-Cut Sentiment That Makes a Great Scrapbook Title

When I first looked at the Thinking of You Dies, one of the things that caught my attention was the size of the large Thinking of You sentiment.

It’s a great size for a card, but as I was playing with the dies, I started thinking about other ways I could use it. It’s large enough to make a real statement on a scrapbook page — so why not use it as the title?

Starting with a Sketch

The basic layout was inspired by a sketch from 30 Days of Sketches with Christy’s Beautiful Life.

I loved the graphic arrangement of the triangular shapes and the spaces for the photographs, and it provided a great starting point for putting my own spin on the design.

Once I had the sketch as my framework, I could concentrate on how I wanted the Thinking of You sentiment to work within the layout.

And that is probably my favourite part of creating from a sketch — you don’t have to reproduce the sketch exactly. It can simply give you the structure to get started, while the products, photographs and your own ideas take the project in a different direction.

Mixing and Matching Products

Once I had an idea of the design of the layout I had to pick my colours & patterns.

I decided that Mosaic Garden Designer Series Paper and coordinating Sticker Sheet would be perfect and it allowed me to bring together the different patterns and colours across the page using the Hydrangea Hue & the Pretty Peacock Two-Toned Cardstock from Memorable Garden Two-Toned Cardstock which co-ordinates beautifully with the DSP and the triangular pieces from both the pattern paper & cardstock create lots of movement across the page, while the photographs and embellishment clusters help break up the patterns.

Making the Sentiment the Feature

I wanted the words LOVE THINKING OF YOU to be the first thing you noticed when looking at the page.

The large Thinking of You die-cut provides plenty of impact, while the additional LOVE created with the Mini Alphabet Dies turns it into a complete scrapbook title. I combined the Thinking of You Bundle with products from other collections, including the Extraordinary Life Dies, which I used for the heart and tab.

I really like how the scale of the sentiment works on a 12″ × 12″ page. It has enough presence to hold its own among the photographs, patterned paper and embellishments without needing a lot of additional title work.

It’s also a good reminder that when you’re scrapbooking, it’s worth looking at your cardmaking dies from a different perspective. A sentiment that might be the focal point of a card can sometimes become a page title, a journaling element or even a design feature on a scrapbook layout.

One of the things I enjoy about Stampin’ Up! products is discovering that a product designed with one type of project in mind can work beautifully somewhere completely different.

The Thinking of You Bundle turned out to be just the right size for a scrapbook title.

So if you have sentiment dies sitting in your collection that you normally reach for when making cards, try placing them on a scrapbook page. You may find that some of those sentiments are already the perfect size to become the star of your layout.
