Have you ever looked at a new craft tool and wondered, “I wonder if I can use this on…?”
When I first got my hot foiling machine, I couldn’t wait to test it on every medium in my stash. One of my favorite experiments was hot foiling directly onto Window Sheets using the Botanical Glow Dies. The crisp metallic shine against clear acetate was too pretty to leave in a drawer. And why settle for a standard card fold when you can build an entire interactive scene that really let the light shine right through it!
The Floating Shaker Fun Fold Card
The Shaker Mechanism: I sandwiched loose gold sequins between the foiled acetate and a second clear layer inside an Early Espresso cardstock frame. This gives the sequins just enough room to dance around without hiding the design!
The Floral Frame: I layered the delicate rose clusters from the Sweetly Sentimental Stamp Set, coloured in soft blush pinks and earthy greens, around the frame. And I finished off the front with a Thank You created with the Classic Greetings Hot Foil Dies.
The Peek-a-Boo Inner Layer: Because the front panel is clear, I added a top-folding white card flap inside (decorated with the coordinating Botanical Glow Stamp Set). I added a small notch using a circle punch so the recipient knows to lift it up to read the message inside!
The fun fold, explained
Here’s where it gets fun. The front panel folds back into itself like a Z, so you can open the card right out and see straight through it — a lovely way to really show off that foiled window sheet.
Because you can see through when it’s open, I added a top fold in white card on the inside, decorated with the Botanical Glow stamp set (which coordinates perfectly with the hot foil dies). This top fold does two jobs: it keeps your message hidden while the card is on display, and it adds even more depth when you’re looking at the card from the front. I added a small notch with a circle punch so the recipient knows exactly where to lift.
