A Little Creative Mischief: When Christmas Mice Deliver Flowers

There’s a funny thing that happens when a new catalogue lands. Everything gets filed neatly in our minds — this stamp set is for Christmas, this die is for spring, this paper is for weddings. And most of the time, that’s exactly how we use them.

But every now and then, I like to ignore the obvious use of a set entirely.

That’s exactly what happened with this little mouse. He’s part of a set I bought with Christmas cards in mind — candy cande, Christmas Wreath, clothing for the cold Dec that is the Northern Hemisphere. Lovely for Cold Winter December, but not something for Hot Summer of Australia and well I didn’t want to create something for Christmas. I wanted something a bit silly & whimsical – we all need a little whimsy in our life. So instead of hat & scarf, I gave him a giant bow. Instead of a wreath, I gave him a bouquet of violets. And just like that, my Christmas mouse had a whole new job: gift-bearer, any time of year.

When Christmas Mice Become Flower Delivery Mice

Building the bouquet

I started with the scalloped lacy edge circle die from the Framed & Fabulous Dies (available in Sep 2026), on its own, it’s a pretty little frame, intended to be used with some matching hot foil plates— but when folded, it became something else entirely: a delicate paper “vase,” the kind of container you’d imagine holding a fresh-cut bunch from the garden.

Into that bouquet went precut florals from the Violet Dreams DSP — with some careful layering & couple of sips, I got that just-picked, slightly wild look. A few tucked-in leaves later, and it genuinely looked like something you’d receive on your doorstep.

The bow that stole the show

Every good gift needs a good bow, and this one is doing some heavy lifting. I used the Elegantly Wrapped (available in Sep 2026), dies to cut the giant bow shape, then ran it through the impressions plate for texture before finishing it off with a little ink blending. That combination — dimension from the embossing, depth from the ink — is what gives it that slightly rumpled, “real ribbon” feel rather than looking flat and papery.

A background with a handmade touch

For the backdrop, I went with Mosaic Garden (available in Sep 2026), it was sitting on my desk with all the new products and the colour worked perfectly with the rest of the design and I added a simple stitched border using a white gel pen along the edge. It’s a small detail, but it’s one of those finishing touches that quietly says “handmade” without shouting about it — the kind of thing that rewards a closer look.

And then, the mouse

Once the bouquet and bow were built, it was time to bring in my cheeky little mouse — cut from Christmas Mice (available in Sep 2026), a set designed entirely with Christmas in mind, and now happily hugging a giant flower bouquet wrapped in a bow that has absolutely nothing to do with December or Christmas. He’s meant to look like he’s mid-delivery, arms wrapped around the flower bouquet, ready to hand it over to someone lucky. I had coloured him in weeks earlier with Stampin’ Blends ready to be used in a project.

Why I made this

Honestly? I just wanted to be creative. No occasion, no deadline, no “this needs to say Merry Christmas.” Just a chance to sit down, pull out supplies I love, and see what happened when I stopped thinking about what they were for and started thinking about what they could become. Plus it was a chance to play with new product and share with you all early.

That’s the heart of what I want to encourage in you too — pull out a set you’ve filed away as “just for X,” and ask it a different question. You might be surprised what it says back.

While most of these products will not be available to customers till Sep 2026, when they do do come online, I hope this idea will make you look & think – I can turn this Christmas Design into something else.

Sometimes creativity means using your supplies in a way they weren’t designed for. The adorable Christmas Mice were just perfect to help me create something fun, whimsical & just because I wanted to create. So I turned the lacy scalloped die from Framed & Fabulous into a paper bouquet, built a giant bow with Elegantly Wrapped (impression plate + ink blending for that extra dimension) , added some pre-cut Violet Dreams florals and finished it off onto a white gel pen border background of Mosaic Garden.
